No 21. URGENT - OBJECT TO ENVIRONMENT AGENCY BY TUESDAY

 

Europa Oil and Gas have applied for various permits to the Environment Agency. The deadline for objections is TUESDAY 7th October. See Frack Free Coastal Communities' response here. Don't forget to respond to the EA yourselves. Please see below for quick bullet points to help you object. For extra details click on what you can object to.

 

NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNCIL IS STILL ACCEPTING COMMENTS ABOUT THE PLANNING APPLICATION

NYC have still to decide on the planning application and, for now, are still accepting comments from the public. The next planning committee meeting is on Tuesday 9th December and the Europa application may be discussed then. You can still send your responses to NYC - the email address is planning.control@northyorks.gov.uk , Quote application reference NY/2025/0030/ENV. You must include your name and address.  Click here to see the leaflet which has been delivered to the villages. It explains in more detail how to object and why. Even if you have already responded to the planning application, you can send more comments. There are many discrepancies between the EOG application to North Yorkshire Council for planning permission and the applications to the EA for permits. As well as letting the EA know about these additions and inconsistencies, it is also very important to let NYC know that EOG have given the EA a different story to the one they told them. Please let the EA and NYC know about these 'discrepancies'  You can still object to and view other comments on the planning application here (go to documents and click on 'Comment on this application').

 

SCALBY AND NEWBY - WAKE UP!!!

We have leafleted Scalby and Newby and we have held open meetings there. We are still surprised that people there have no idea what is going to happen in their area. The drill may be in Burniston, but the target for fracking (4 proppant squeezes) and waste facility underground site are situated between Barmoor Lane and the Rugby Club. The waste facility will contain fracking fluid and will be left there by Europa for ever or until it dissipates (to goodness knows where). Are you OK with that? PARLIAMENT AND PETITION NEWS

 

Ed Milliband announced at the Labour Conference that Labour were going to ban fracking for good. We were absolutely thrilled.

BUT this is how the BBC reported it. So is it all as it seems? Is Labour really going to ban all fracking or just shale fracking? Currently it seems that Ed is only interested in banning what is already in the moratorium and this will not help all those fighting 'small scale' or 'non shale' fracking. We need all fracking of any description to be banned.

 

WE DEMAND A BAN ON ALL ONSHORE FRACKING OF EVERY DESCRIPTION - FULL STOP!!!

 

FFCC were invited to a Round Table Meeting at the Labour Conference chaired by Alison Hume and attended by Friends of the Earth. The topic was to ban all onshore fracking.  Alison said on FaceBook

'The roundtable reflects a growing concern among local leaders and environmental advocates about the implications of fracking in the region.

While the outcome of the planning application by Europa Oil and Gas remains to be seen, the voices at the roundtable seemed determined to influence the government's stance on fracking.'

 

I am campaigning hard for the Government to extend the moratorium on fracking to include "proppant squeeze", so that we close this loophole and ban fracking for good.

We are currently at 9841 signatures on the petition. We really need to get to 10,000 so we can send the message to the government that we dont want half measures - we want to ban all onshore fracking! The government must respond to our petition when we reach 10,000 signatures. We will still be aiming for 100,000 signatures so we get a chance for a debate in parliament. There is no surer way to beat the frackers than to ban fracking altogether by law. Even if you have signed the petition - please share to get others to sign.

OTHER NEWS

Alison Hume is going to arrange a meeting in Burniston on Sat 25th Oct and will be inviting those that have already written to her and North Yorkshire and local councillors. Venue to be confirmed. (apologies for the typo on news letter 20 when it said 15th instead of 25th)

A question was asked at Prime Minister's Question Time recently to ask when the government is going to ban all fracking. The answer was very encouraging indeed. Spot Alison Hume in the video too. Watch here

REMINDER OF WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING AGAINST

​

Drill or Drop reported on the flaws FFCC pointed out in the Europa Oil and Gas Environmental Permit application. Europa responded in a follow up Drill or Drop article - they tell the same lies we have become very accustomed to and quite bored with.
