OBJECTION NEWS
Despite the new deadline of 30th April having past for objections, NYC are still accepting new objections for the time being. Please make sure you manage to get your say.
Click here to see the leaflet to help you object. To object by email write to planning.control@northyorks.gov.uk quoting the application reference NY/2025/0030/ENV. You must include your name and address.
Also, some people have not yet seen their objections on the portal and some have opened their objections only to find there have been 'redactions' - ie some of their objection has been blanked out.
Please check your objections - CLICK HERE then, then click on the 'Documents' tab, scroll down to ***PUBLIC REPRESENTATIONS***, and your objection will be called YYMMDD_YOURNAME where YYMMDD is the date you submitted the objection. Please let us know if you come across any problems.

Just for info - Ruth Hayhurst, freelance journalist, has been writing about this and other issues in Drill or Drop. This is what she wrote about all the objections to this application. You will also find loads of valuable information about drilling in her articles. https://drillordrop.com/2025/05/09/99-oppose-burniston-gas-plan/
SHOCKING FOOTAGE OF IMPACT OF PROPOSED DRILLING RIG
The steering group decided to carry out an experiment to see what the effect of having a 38m drilling rig on the Europa site in Burniston would be They launched a drone 38m high with lights on. It showed shocking footage - anywhere the drone can see can also see the drill rig. You will be shocked to see the results. This is the footage from the drone https://youtu.be/3_IvA6IpBIg. If you can see your house, you will be able to see the drill.

NORTH YORKHIRE MOORS NATIONAL PARK
There was a meeting on 28th April in Burniston by North Yorkshire Moors National Park. We were all shocked to learn that the Drilling Application was not even on their agenda. How extraordinary is that! The public and local councils were present and made their views about this very obvious. There will be a planning meeting by the NYMNP on 15th May at 10:00am in Helmsley. Some of our members are going to try to attend - the more people that can manage to attend the better. This planning application cannot possibly be ignored by the National Park. If you want to see how the National Park will be affected - see the drone footage above! Here is the agenda for the 15th May meeting https://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0036/147996/Agenda-Final.pdf - our application is from pages 65 to 83.
A huge thanks to those who have donated to help us. We are still raising funds to pay Katie Atkinson - planning consultant - who has been invaluable to our group. To speak to us about anything, or to sign up, please contact us here. If you wish to support us you can make a donation here.
A PICTURE TELLS A THOUSAND WORDS
This is how the light of the drone looks like at 38m above the site from Westfield Farm Station Lane. It can also be seen by nearly every house in Burniston. The white dot shows the height of the proposed drilling rig.
