Frack Free Coastal Communities and Frack Free Scarborough have been working together to organise events leading up to and including the rally on the day.
Please join us at SCARBOROUGH TOWN HALL ON 24th APRIL 2026 at MIDDAY.

NO FRACKING IN BURNISTON - NO FRACKING ANYWHERE!
PLEASE SUPPORT US BY COMING TO SCARBOROUGH TOWN HALL ON 24th APRIL 2026 at MIDDAY WITH PLACARDS, BANNERS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND LET OUR REPRESENTATIVES KNOW HOW WE FEEL!
WE will be outside the town hall on the green next to Queen Victoria's statue. There will be placards, banners and posters. The press, TV and radio will be there in force. Speakers at the lobby include John Atkinson from Frack Free Scarborough, Simon Bowens from Friends of the Earth, Richard Maws NYC and Scarborough Town Council, Steve Mason NYC, The Green Party will be there too and many more.
Inside the meeting the speakers are:-
1. Objectors – Prof. Chris Garforth (Chair of the Steering Group of Frack Free Coastal Communities) and Katie Atkinson (Planning Consultant) 5 minutes
2. Cllr Helen Bore (Newby and Scalby Town Council) 5 minutes
3. Cllr Karen Fanthorpe (Cloughton Parish Council) 5 minutes
4. Cllr Richard Parsons (Burniston Parish Council) 5 minutes
5. Cllr Derek Bastiman (North Yorkshire Council – division councillor) 5 minutes
6. Cllr Rich Maw (North Yorkshire Council) 5 minutes
7. Cllr Steve Mason (North Yorkshire Council) 5 minutes

The 15 Strategic Planning Committee Members, who will vote on the application, have been provided with a much altered officers report from the one published for the cancelled meeting on 30th January. However, the recommendation is still to approve the application. Read this excellent article by Drill or Drop which details the difference between the old and new report. In preparation for the lobby on Friday, FFCC and FFS leafletted all the houses in Burniston, Scalby. Cloughton and the villages. We were in town giving out leaflets. We put the information nationwide to all those against fracking. We need everyone to come and support us.
FUNDRAISING
The decision will be made on Friday - but no matter what - that will not be the end of it. If the council approve the application there could be the prospect of a judicial review. If they reject the application there may be an appeal by Europa. We also have a looming ombudsman case against North Yorkshire Council regarding the shambolic planning process. This means our next phase will be very expensive and we are making plans to raise money via various methods. On top of our regular events we will be looking into go fund me type pages and looking for substantial donations. Watch this space!
We raised a whopping £950 at the Spring Fayre last weekend. Thank you so much to our dedicated supporters for all their hard work.
NEXT EVENT : DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY WITH THE OLD SCHOOL BAND!
Other Dates for your Diary:
JUNE 26th 7pm - RETURN OF OUR POPULAR QUIZ NIGHT
SEP 18th 7pm - FASHION SHOW featuring "models" from the fund raising committee.

A REMINDER AS TO WHY WE ARE DOING THIS
On at least 2 occasions on the TV in the last week, Will Holland, CEO for Europa Oil and Gas, stated publicly that the gas from the Burniston Gas field will be 'YORKSHIRE GAS FOR YORKSHIRE PEOPLE'. The gas will in fact be sold to the highest bidder. There is no way EOG can reserve any gas for the use of only YORKSHIRE! This is an out and out lie. At the same time NYC have put a letter sent by EOG to NYC councillors onto the planning committee complaining about FFCC spreading 'misinformation'. We promise always to tell you the truth.

WHO ARE FFCC - Frack Free Costal Communities?
We are a local group, who have been campaigning regionally and nationally, from the villages on the North Yorkshire Heritage coast including Burniston, Cloughton, Scalby, Staintondale and Ravenscar. We want to protect our beautiful heritage coastline from industrialisation and the irreversible damage to our local environment, and the wider climate that Europa’s ‘Proppant squeeze’ (fracking) would cause. We believe the use of fossil fuels are destroying our planet and fracking should be banned in all forms.
We need to spread the message further. We would love to hear from any environmental organisations with national reach who might be able to help us spread the message nationwide.
WHAT IS FRACKING - AND WHY IS ALL ON SHORE FRACKING NOT BANNED NOW?
Fracking is short for Hydraulic Fracturing. Hydraulic Fracturing is a process that uses fluids to fracture rocks. Lower volume fracturing is not prevented by the moratorium on associated hydraulic fracturing, which was introduced in 2019. The moratorium affects only operations using more than 1,000m3 of fluid per fracturing stage or 10,000m3 in total. This volume is more than was used in Lancashire causing earthquakes which damaged properties and resulted in the moratorium! Opponents have described this as a loophole in the law and called for a wider ban to include lower volume fracking. This planning application by Europa, if approved, will set a precedent for the many applications waiting in the wings. The government has replied to a parliamentary petition to ban 'small scale fracking' saying “the government recognises concerns from local communities regarding low volume fracturing and the fact that it is currently treated differently, and is therefore currently reviewing the position with regard to low volume hydraulic fracturing.” In the 2025 Labour Conference, Ed Milliband said (as reported by Drill or Drop) “I say let’s ban fracking and send this bunch of frackers packing too”.
Thank you for your support
