No. 20 - CURRENT SITUATION SUMMARY:

North Yorkshire Council have still to decide on the planning application and we do not yet know when it will be heard. We know it will not be heard at the planning committee meeting of 14th October and their next meeting is not until November. You can still send your responses to NYC - please see how below.

​

Europa Oil and Gas have applied for various permits to the Environment Agency. The EA's closing date for objections was 19th September 2025. The Environment Agency held a drop in session in Burniston and Cloughton Village Hall on 3rd September. After the drop in session, the EA granted an extension after many requests pointing out missing documents on the portal. The new deadline is 7th October. Please see below tips on how to respond to the EA consultation and what you can object to.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY AND PLANNING NEWS:

The EA consultation drop in on 3rd September was well attended. We asked many pre-prepared questions. This has helped us to put together a draft FFCC response.

​

The EA sent a 'Schedule 5' to Europa Oil and Gas (EOG) on 15th August 25 which asked for many additional documents by 15th September 25. Now you can find the Schedule 25 document and 23 new documents from EOG on the EA portal. We will finalise and distribute our response to the EA after reading through these additional documents.

HAVE YOUR SAY BEFORE 7th OCTOBER!!! HOW YOU CAN OBJECT TO THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY. Here is a summary of what you can comment on. We have also put together some easy to follow bullet points below to help you quickly put together your objections. Here is the link to the portal for your responses.

YOU CAN STILL RESPOND TO NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNCIL ABOUT THE PLANNING APPLICATION!

 

As mentioned in the bullet points above, there are many discrepancies between the EOG application to North Yorkshire Council for planning permission and the applications to the EA for permits. As well as letting the EA know about these additions and inconsistencies, it is also very important to let NYC know that EOG have given the EA a different story to the one they told them. Please let the EA and NYC know about these 'discrepancies'.

PETITION NEWS

 

We are currently at 9439 signatures on the petition. We cant wait to get to 10,000 so the government will respond to our petition. We will celebrate when we get there - details to follow. We will still be aiming for 100,000 signatures so we get a chance for a debate in parliament. There is no surer way to beat the frackers than to ban fracking altogether by law. Even if you have signed the petition - please share to get others to sign.

OTHER NEWS

 

Alison Hume is going to arrange a meeting in Burniston on Sat 25th Oct and will be inviting those that have already written to her and North Yorkshire and local councillors. Venue to be confirmed.

Alison Hume has also invited representatives from FFCC as well as Friends of the Earth to a special Round Table meeting at the Labour Conference. We are very happy as this gives us a chance to put forward our objections at the highest level.

A question was asked at Prime Minister's Question Time recently to ask when the government is going to ban all fracking. The answer was very encouraging indeed. Spot Alison Hume in the video too. Watch here

 

 

REMINDER OF WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING AGAINST

 

We are still coming across many people from Newby and Scalby who have no idea what is coming. They will not have had the consultation letters from the EA as they are in a different area, so please keep the conversation alive in these areas. This is the proposed site for an underground waste facility under Barmoor Lane.
