FFCC at the Seaside!

Frack Free Coastal Communities and friends gathered on Scarborough South Bay early one morning last week to draw attention to the petition and to also draw a 38m drill rig to scale on the beach. Fun was had by all. This is a facebook post to show the proceedings.

PLANNING APPLICATION - STILL TIME TO OBJECT - AND MORE TO OBJECT TO!

The planning committee at NYC have still to announce a meeting date when the Europa application will be discussed. There is still time to OBJECT ! If you read the EA permit applications submitted by Europa you will see they are asking for way more than they disclosed on their planning application. For example they now want to have multiple proppant squeeze operations and burn more than 10t of gas from the flare PER DAY. One objection says that Europa is using the tactic of permission creep.( Follow this link and look for 250804_D-May_2 in Documents). The environment agency itself has already objected to the planning application 'due to an unacceptable risk to groundwater quality'. ( Follow this link and look for 250515_Environment_Agency_consultation_response in Documents). Drill or Drop has excellent information for which we are very grateful.

EXTENSION ON DEADLINE FOR OBJECTIONS TO EUROPA'S APPLICATION FOR PERMITS TO THE EA

Drill or Drop reported that Europa has applied for several permits from the Environment Agency required for their proposed drilling operation in Burniston. Read it here. Various permits have been applied for - see here.

The initial closing date for objections was 13th August but after several appeals the EA has extended this to 19th September. Drill or Drop reports.

Latest update from the FFCC Steering Group.

Following our Steering group meeting yesterday, we all agreed that more time is needed to look in detail at Europa’s documentation to the Environment Agency.

We are very concerned at some of the worrying technical information regarding Europa’s risk assessment and need to source some subject expertise around chemicals, health and safety and water.

We are delighted that the deadline for submission from the public has been put back to September 19th which will give us more time to get the key facts together and then share with our FFCC group. Please don’t submit anything until our next update.
