FFCC attended the Friends of the Earth Summer Action Gathering in Hull on 24th June. We were asked to make a presentation of what we are doing. We learned so much from other groups and experts on lobbying. We were delighted to be given an award! Pictured is Simon Bowens from FoE and Daryl and Clare from FFCC. No 12 - FRACK FREE COASTAL COMMUNITIES RECEIVE AN AWARD

UPDATE ON FFCC MEETING of 10th June 2025

 

The meeting was a huge success with almost 200 people attending.

 

There were votes in favour of :-

a) the Steering Group continuing

b) funding approval needed for up to £2,750 for KA’s services up to planning committee decision.

 

We also raised £313 on the raffle on the night!

FFCC Chair Chris Garforth said "Another great turnout at the Rugby Club on Tuesday. A big thank you to everyone who came - and those supporters who weren't able to join us - for all you've done over the past nine months: distributing leaflets, telling family and friends about the threat Europa poses to our communities and our planet, putting up posters, sharing information on social media and messaging apps, marching to the drill site in March, reading and researching the planning application. And what a result: over 1400 objections submitted to North Yorkshire.

 

They are still accepting objections - the latest was uploaded to the register yesterday. So if you haven't done so already, or you have additional comments to make, it's not too late!"

COFFEE MORNING AND BIG CAKE SALE

The coffee morning and BIG cake sale will be a lovely social occasion as well as raising much needed funds. Please let us know if you can bake cakes for us to sell here

SAVE THE DAY - QUIZ NIGHT - 22nd August 2025 7pm-10pm Cloughton and Burniston Village Hall

We are having a quiz night on 22nd August, please save the date. we will be looking for team leaders who can muster 8-10 people in a team.

COMING UP IN FUTURE

We have been sent a wonderful film by Paul Maple, an independent film maker with a passion for creating a better future. It has taken him 3 years to make with another person. The film is called System Update. We are going to have a film night so we can watch it together.

There have been some very encouraging events happening at parliamentary level.

​

PARLIAMENTARY PETITION - COMING SOON 

 

Alison Hume MP asked us to start a parliamentary petition to ban 'proppant squeezing' or 'small scale fracking' or simply said 'ALL FRACKING'. for onshore oil and gas This is now waiting to pass parliamentary  'petition standards' . Our aim is to get 100,000 signatures so the petition is considered for a debate in Parliament. Please keep your eyes peeled for the petition and get all your friends and relatives to sign up so that we can tell everyone when the petition is live.

An EARLY DAY MOTION was opened on 18th June 2025 to stop all on shore fracking in all its forms. You can view it here

OBJECTION NEWS

​

The Environment Agency has said the Burniston Gas plan poses an unacceptable risk to Groundwater - see this report in Drill or Drop.

​

NYC are still accepting new objections for the time being. Please make sure you manage to get your say. Click here to see the leaflet to help you object.

 

To object by email write to planning.control@northyorks.gov.uk quoting the application reference NY/2025/0030/ENV. You must include your name and address.  

​

FFCC's objection has been written by Katie Atkinson and has now been submitted to the NYC planning portal here. Its a long document, but a summary can be found here.
